Why Hire A Designer?
The first meeting is usually 1 - 2 hours long, and we use it as time to get to know your project and a little bit about you and your family. We like to discuss your goals and vision while touring your space and taking measurements. We also like to take pictures of your home so that while we are away from your project we can refer back to the spaces for inspiration! Plus, they make great "before" pictures to look back on! We also like to take this initial meeting time to answer any of your questions about us and our process!
What Happens In Our First Meeting?
We create a variety of different drawings - the most common being furniture layouts and design plans used for renovations. We use AutoCAD (a computer-aided design program) in order to put together all of our design drawings, as we find it helps our clients visualize what their space could look like at a proper scale. We feel that drawings are extremely valuable as they can be used by contractors and other trades people to quote on your project and get a sense of what the end goal for your space is! They are also a great tool that can be used when it comes time to purchase furniture and accessories! Renovation drawings are usually only 80% correct, as they are created based on your existing space, and sometimes there are unforeseen conditions that cause changes... But don't worry! We are great at adjusting and problem solving to make your space the best it can be!
What Are Drawings & What Makes Them Valuable?
Basement or Main Floor Reno.
Which Comes First?
Most homeowners actually have this backwards... If you have the option, we usually encourage starting with your main floor renovations first. This is because in the case of a kitchen or main floor bathroom renovation we find that plumbing and electrical usually need to be removed/moved/or added. This process is easiest when your basement ceiling is unfinished and everything is easily exposed. If your basement is finished, don't worry as your renovation can still be done - it just requires a little more time and a little bit more clean up!
This totally depends on the scope of your project! We like to tell clients that it can take anywhere from 1 - 16 weeks, but general renovations usually take an average of 8 - 16 weeks. We try our best to adhere to the discussed timeline however, there are many factors and moving parts that can sometimes cause changes and delays. We like to be as organized as possible before any rip-out begins as it takes time to select materials and have items delivered. We have found that this is the best way to keep a project on schedule. Our goal is to have your project completed as easily and efficiently as possible in order to make it a fun and enjoyable experience for you!
How Long Can I Expect My Reno To Take?
We are always working on your project behind the scenes, so don't be alarmed if you don't see us for a while! Just know that we are researching the best products for you, creating the most effective design plans for your space, picking up materials that fit your vision, and possibly coordintating with trades people to keep your project on track!
